The SOCIALIST movement must become quasi-religious to become a MASS MOVEMENT

      • True during the Cold War many so called " liberals " were soft on Stalinism, on Totalitarian Socialism.

        • To a degree " Marxian " ideology has been warped by 100 years of " socialism " at its most undemocratic worst.
The IDEA of SOCIALISM is very old ( going back to Plato's Republic and the " socialist " traditions of early Christianity .
If you study Fox News recently, you get the impression that SOCIALISM is in the air and on the air and about to seize the heart of the Democratic Party.
But pristine IDEA of socialism has no home in the Democratic Party and no home ON THE LEFT where it is fragmented into a hundred or more miserable sects each pronouncing anathema on the others. Many of these " socialist " sects have degenerated into bizarre personality cults where the " faithful " members can be compared to " CLEARS " in the Church of Scientology fawning on their GREAT LEADER .
Nearly ALL the " socialist " sects are openly hostile to Christians ( they do make up a large part of Karl Marx's MASSES ! ) and Christianity.
They are clueless why SOCIALISM never caught on after 1917 . Well , so unwisely the Russian Bolsheviks - beginning with Lenin and Trotsky - inspired by the " Society of the Godless " unholy vision - made the Soviet Union an OFFICIALLY ATHEIST state.
And THAT turned off mostly Catholic Europe - Italy , Spain, France , Portugal, Romania .
To survive as a MASS MOVEMENT Socialism must transform itself into a quasi-religious movement for ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY - minus the dreary dogma of hopelessly corrupted Marxism .
There is still a lot of real SCIENCE in Marxist sociology but the SOUL of it has dried up inspiring only eccentric ideological neurotics incapable even of TALKING to ordinary people - many of whom are loyal to the religious identity of their youth : Catholic , Protestant , Jewish, Muslim .
The Unitarian Church has its virtues of open minded-ness and tolerance. But it is unpleasantly like a classic county BAR that serves only non-alcoholic beverages.
The Mystical Body of Christ needs stronger stuff for the Holy Days of Wine and Roses .

        • Eugene V. Debs observed that White was "the only Christian minister" in New York.[11] In The Carpenter and the Rich Man (1914) "Bouck White shows in vivid and absorbing fashion Jesus as the leader of the great proletarian surge of his time. The immorality of being rich when other people are poor, is the keynote of this book, and the author bases it on the message of the Carpenter as found in the parables."[9]]

A pioneer of SOCIALISM as a spiritual movement ?
