Why so many scientists were socialists ?

   When individuals with no sense of human history as a PROCESS ( Hegel forgive me ! ) say that SOCIALISM can't work it only means that they see human society as sort of machine. And they would deny a patent to whatever economic system smacks of " socialism ".
But socialists -as real social scientists- know that they can introduce REASON and SANITY into human social relationships.
Why have so many Nobel Prize winning scientists advocated socialism ? I recall Albert Einstein and Linus Pauling. The father of the American Atomic Bomb, J.Robert Oppenheimer ,was branded a " communist " by the right wing demagogue Senator Joe McCarthy.
Presently, Pope Francis frowns on the ethics of global capitalism. If Catholic social philosophy were taken seriously, many socialist mass parties would be almost superfluous.
