Most place names have an etymological history. Was there a certain " Block " associated with beautiful Block Island ? We of one generation, one moment in time , should not arrogate to ourselves the right to change venerable old place names- motivated by politically correct virtue-or just pure narcissism.
If a Rhode Island historian can explain just WHY Block Island is so named , then don't change it. Otherwise, let's keep the old poetic Biblical name : " Galilee Beach " . And rename Block Island " Salty Brine Isle ". I never did care for " Salty Brine Beach ". A consumerist blasphemy.
