Nothing more un-Catholic than hyper-nationalism

   I thought this Catholic Pope was excellent at speaking TRUTH to power ( of the nasty secular kind ) . But as a " head of state " himself he is decidedly and understandably more diplomatic here talking to all those Ayn Rand ( a militant atheist ) inspired Republicans- who now control the Congress of the United States..
Before the United Nations he will no doubt raise the issue of the unprecedented world migration crisis. Nothing could be less " Catholic " than a fanatical and hyper-defensive nationalism- the cause of the Great War one hundred years ago. That Great War led to a still greater war-and a possible world Holocaust in this 21st century.
I am pleased that my state of Rhode Island-still strongly Catholic-is prepared to welcome thousands of Syrian refugees.
