Review of " Must You Conform " As one of those 60s young radicals I was influenced by Dr. Lindner's
book " Must You Conform ". By 1970 my own experience in life had taught
me quite enough about this " 11th Commandment ". A pleasant surprise:
The cult movie " Rebel Without A Cause " -its concept - was based on
Dr. Lindner's book of that title. I associate " Jimmy " with a young
friend of mine- RFM- who in 1970 was wearing a bright red " James Dean
jacket ". Soon RFM would become a rebel with a cause: protesting the
Vietnam War and the social injustice of American capitalism .
A
while back I located the original " Rebel Without A Cause " ( Dr
.Lindner's study of a disturbed adolescent ) on the shelves at the Rhode
Island College Library- a tattered old academic book -but still
interesting and relevant. Sad to see colleges dump such books in their
irreverent BOOK SALES. Nothing like browsing library book shelves for
serendipitous discoveries.
