Raimondo make the Orwellian suggestion that cutting the Medicaid budget
would improve health care for our most vulnerable citizens ? I am not
imagining this . SAVING is good ?
But of course these group homes are a pathetic substitute for lack of mental health HOSPITALS. I hope the consequences of DE-INSTITUTIONALIZATION of the mentally ill-50 years of FAILURE -will be taken up by that announced summit on our mental health system at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick on June 8.
I recall a column by former Providence Journal editorial page editor Robert Whitcomb advocating these mental institutions-such as once existed. Whitcomb was quickly rebuked by the bean counters of state budgets, the champions of " freedom and prosperity " here.
