A KEEP RHODE ISLAND CLEAN DEPT. ?

Comment on Arlene Violet column in Valley Breeze   I have no quarrel with that beautiful Rhode Island which is just a gift of nature. Friends and relatives -back from Florida, for example- said they missed the sensuous variety of the Ocean State- ocean, country, farms, woods, the changing seasons. It is an obscene sin to defile it.
But scolding or fining slobs does little to restore pristine beauty here. THOUGHTFUL GOVERNMENT can help.
For example, on our beautiful beaches there were once a brigade of hired custodians, a clean up crew. But years ago some clever bureaucrat got the inspiration that the public could clean up after itself: so bring your own garbage bags, folks. And soon after THE MESS !
There should be more trash cans at RIPTA bus stops. Also more of those sand filled baskets for disgusting cigarette butts.
The state should hire plenty of able bodied young people for a permanent KEEP RHODE ISLAND CLEAN DEPT.
My neighbor and I took the dogs for a walk around that beautiful Roger William Park Casino. Very pleasant until Dorene noticed dog and bird droppings everywhere.
At the entrance to the new walk path around the old Rocky Point Park area in Warwick there is sign offering free litter bags for your dog.
Just before a well advertised event in Roger Williams Park Dorene and I noticed a real health hazard to pets and visitors to the park: MIERDA everywhere !
Many people can simply be made more aware about the need to respect the planet earth. Mother Earth will not be insulted for much longer.
When I was a kid back in the 60s a hot summer day was just that: a hot summer-fun in the sun -beach day. Now it is invariably a TOXIC AIR DAY.
The real big damage to Mother Earth is done not by ignorant low lifes but by arrogant " corporate citizens ".
There are not enough Ralph Naders out there.
