I am hearing too many " official " people resist calling Dylann Roof
mentally ill. It is more politically expedient to deal with him as a
despicable " hater " . That way their " system " evades blame,. No
tragedy -not 100 people murdered- will force them to find any fault with
the social, political, and economic system of capitalism. In his
manifesto( ? ) Roof rants about poor whites being forced to live and go
to school with poor blacks. There is clearly a CLASS issue too.
For years now poor white kids have been invisible to the American news media. At least years ago socialist writer Michael Harrington consigned them to " The Other America ".
Also, we are seeing the consequences of the de-institutionalization of the mentally ill in America some 50 years ago. That too was a crime against humanity.
Perhaps I can expect only the Bernie Sanders campaign to talk rationally about this tragedy.
