The American ruling class still fears the very idea of socialism
I think the American ruling class- and conservatives like George Will identify with THEM-has still a lot to fear by the very idea of " socialism ". Reactionary Red Eye Radio is clearly obsessed with its specter still haunting academia and every corner of America where " democracy " and " free thinking " is not a pathetic joke.
The democratic Socialists of the world never concluded that the collapse of the Stalinist Soviet Union was the death of a beautiful dream.
The embargo and hostility toward heroic socialist Cuba is explained by the implacable will of the U.S. ruling class to isolate and quarantine socialism as an IDEA.
What interpretation of history sees only the END OF HISTORY -with human civilization culminating in a CAPITALISM FOREVER world social order- a nightmare of poverty , injustice, and inequality for the vast majority of people on the planet ?
The American ruling class is now intellectually and morally bankrupt. Their VOICES in the capitalist news media tell the public that a world in which THEY are on top is the best of all possible worlds. Better for you not to imagine a better one.
Makes wonderful sense : the ONE PERCENT who own everything do NOTHING ? Today even a weak VOICE OF SOCIALISM - Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont- will get a sympathetic hearing in this decaying capitalist America.
