I agree completely with S.T. Joshi's view about H.P. Lovecraft's bust
being the victim of obnoxious, arrogant, and hypocritical political
correctness. It is not the business of any PRESENT day luminaries to
change names and replace iconic awards based on their own ephemeral "
enlightenment ". Under the banner of " political correctness " there has
been a lot of damage to FREE SPEECH principles, a lot of gratuitous
smearing of gifted artists and writers long dead
By the end of his life H.P. Lovecraft had evolved into a democratic Socialist- not too different from Norman Thomas in his day or Bernie Sanders today. How many " politically correct " snobs are socialists ? Or opposed to racist Islamophobia or the imperialist wars of the New Colonialism in the Middle East ?
A future generation might recall President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize. But that would be just as silly- but more justified- than the Lovecraft bust farce of World Fantasy.
