aristocracy " was a contradiction within the system. But Leon Trotsky
-close up-observed the seeds of corruption early in the Stalin era. In "
The Revolution Betrayed " he predicted that the new privileged class in
Russia could take the country all the way back to capitalism. Do the
ghosts of the old Bolsheviks haunt the Kremlin today ? Putin can only
justify himself by " divine right " not by the " dictatorship of the
proletariat ". Hence his embrace of the Russian Orthodox Pope- who
blesses the New Czar. All very Byzantine. What would Karl Marx think ?
