As a democratic Socialist I have one point of concern with
the vociferous-and often belligerent -New Atheists: If you share with
socialists a desire for a more just, more rational world, you simply
must respect the religious faith of the world's billions.I cannot
imagine ANY left-wing political organization becoming a VOICE for the
masses if it shows a hateful, contemptuous attitude toward people of
faith. The worst example was set by New Atheist idol-and ex-Trotskyist-
Christopher Hitchens . I read his nasty book " God Is Not Great- how
religion poisons everything ". It did not surprise me that Hitchens'
Islamophobia culminated in his support for the criminal war of U.S.
imperialism in Iraq.
I recall with a smile the
Catholic Catechism's warning against the sin of intellectual pride:
Smarter than Thou ? Ask a New Atheist.
And I guess " democracy " just out votes them.
