On the Left myself I would no more care to protest the National Anthem in a football or a baseball stadium than I would care to protest a certain " controversial " Prayer on the Wall " in a Cranston, Rhode Island high school.
But President Trump here is not preaching " respect " for national ideals or symbols - the meaning of which he is clueless. Stupid and poisonous nationalism - the same in Paris and London and Berlin and in Moscow as in Boston or New York- should not be confused with the ordinary " patriotic " emotion: one loves his or her country the same way he or she roots for the home team - in a contest of athletic skills not bellicose ferocity.
FIRE the non-conformist ? That is the voice of capitalist fascism speaking.
What can be more American than hating THE BOSS ?
