Very early this morning I hear the right wing " Red Eye Radio " voice call Kaepernick a " Marxist ". But on the far right everybody to the left of Rush Limbaugh is an old fashioned " fellow traveler " even a quarter of a century after the collapse of the Stalinist Soviet Union.
The American ruling class fears that RACE consciousness- fury at police brutality - can generalize into militant CLASS consciousness. After all, it is precisely poor working class black persons who are likely victims of police brutality. But police brutality is not all about racism . It is all about protecting the property of the business class, the ruling class, against smoldering " underclass " resentment. Hard for people with so little -and TV commercials showing them so much seductive GOOD LIFE pleasures- to be guided in their daily life by middle class moral values.
Even a good riot now and then is just a " redistribution of capitalist surplus value " as Marx would say . Or ask that " Marxist " Kaepernick . Perhaps he can call " Red Eye Radio " some sleepless night and clarify his " left wing " politics .
As Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago said after the Democratic National Convention riots in 1968 : " The police are not there to create disorder ; they are there to preserve disorder ".
