Bolsheviks discussed " The Jewish Question " a long, long time ago

Discussion on World Socialist Web Site

Trump’s “Mein Kampf” tirade at the United Nations

" On the other hand the Jews of different countries have created their press and developed the Yiddish language as an instrument adapted to modern-culture. One must therefore reckon with the fact that the Jewish nation will maintain itself for an entire epoch to come. Now the nation cannot normally exist without a common territory. Zionism springs from this very idea. But the facts of every passing day demonstrate to us that Zionism is incapable of resolving the Jewish question. The conflict between the Jews and Arabs in Palestine acquires a more and more tragic and more and more menacing character. I do not at all believe that the Jewish question can be resolved within the framework of rotting capitalism and under the control of British imperialism." ( Leon Trotsky )

" The Jewish Question " was discussed by Old Bolsheviks a long, long time ago. They concluded that Zionism was not in the interest of the Jewish people as a whole. And what does state worship have in common even with liberal humanism ? Oddly enough, many Zionists today are Ayn Rand atheists. Do you expect to win the hearts and minds of working class people ?

Oddly enough ,the more Orthodox Jews express a cynicism about the goals of Zionism.

Why did the Socialist Workers Party in the United States go " soft on Zionism " ? Not being a joiner I don't know anything about " sectarian " politics- which would amaze George Orwell even today.

I like what Orwell said : " Socialism should be obvious ". But is it obvious even to " socialists " ?
