The " democratic socialist " Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is at
least helping to get a polite hearing for old socialist ideas- ideas
still quite sound and rational. Rather than transfer financial resources
from the common people to the banks, real socialism would transfer
them, transfer WEALTH, the " social surplus value " ( Karl Marx ) , to
the common people. The state - acting in the interest of the vast
majority of American citizens- will freeze the assets of the ONE PERCENT
plutocracy and NATIONALIZE their banks.
Under socialism you will quite simply have no right to be PRIVATELY rich. That is political revolution ! MOST of us will be a lot better off- unless you think capitalism is part of the divine plan.

- True, regulation is not the same as nationalization. I think Bernie is more New Deal liberal than even a Norman Thomas socialist. The neo-Democrats - like Hillary Clinton- have betrayed the values of the FDR reformism. How can you play with the idea of serious regulation of the banks without suggesting the more radical solution ? I am pragmatic too. I would certainly give Bernie's ideas a chance to work. But we are entering a stage of human history where nothing is more practical than UTOPIAN vision.
