Too many conspicuously " successful " Italian-Americans - like Judge Scalia- turn their backs on their " lower class " friends and relatives and think this " conservative " snobbery consistent with the spirit of Catholic social philosophy. I have more respect for the Italian anarchists organizing Federal Hill during the Great Depression.
Sacco and Vanzetti expressed the Italian-American soul better than Judge Scalia. My brother recommends Mario Puzo's neglected book " Fortunate Pilgrim ".
Respect for reasonably good Constitution is not the same as the worship of it as a secular Holy Book.
Change and PROGRESS is the law of life - even in sunny Italy. The American film industry can learn from the post-war Italian cinema- communist/socialist inspired, of course - " The New Realism " . It was compatible with " La Dolce Vita ".
