In the last year of his life ( 1965 ) in many of his speeches Malcolm X
made a connection-which endeared him to white radical leftists-between
racism and capitalism, between racial oppression and U.S. imperialism.
Young black people today are beginning to listen to democratic
socialists and a " socialist " Democrat, Senator Bernie Sanders of
Vermont.
A still relevant book about Malcolm X's political evolution was edited by socialist writer George Breitman, then a member of the Socialist Workers Party : " Malcolm X Speaks ".
My favorite Malcolm X quote : " Show me a capitalist and I'll show you a blood sucker " This is a long way from " identity politics ", is it not ?
I can't imagine Malcolm X endorsing Hillary Clinton. But Spike Lee, the director of " X ", just endorsed Bernie Sanders in a South Carolina ad.
