The writer makes a good
point. I think the " politically correct " Left lobotomized itself on
the history of marriage in capitalist society. Gay marriage is just an
extension of bourgeois marriage -which was always about private property
rights-not romantic LOVE.
Even the old Beatnik legends had a cynical view of marriage as an economic " trap ". They would view gay marriage-not a few gay or bisexual themselves-as a farce of a farce.
What was ominous about the gay marriage debate was the lack of respect for " free speech ". Prominent Catholics -like Bishop Tobin -were bashed as " haters ". But real hatred was visible in a pattern of vandalism of Catholic churches-and taunting the faithful coming from and going to mass on Sunday.
I see all this as the fruit of the New Atheism.And the New Atheists are NOT on the left, not socialists. They are cultural and even economic fascists.Smirking with contempt is the face of Ayn Rand. Hers was indeed " A Life of Contempt ".
