Forget about religion for a
moment. What would the great evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin think
about gay marriage ? Darwin - himself from a respectable pious
background-would still see human society as having evolved from monkey
society. In Nature " survival " means survival of the SPECIES. Nature
would simply veto gay mating. A gay human society would not survive a
single generation.
But Marx might see gay marriage as not incompatible with human civilization. And a social scientist- aware of the human population explosion-might see gay marriage -even an increase in homosexuality- as a salubrious check on overpopulation.
The Catholic Church now accepts human evolution -but insists that the faith is beyond science.
I think science and religion should get along.I am not impressed with mediocre scientists who bash religious faith. I am definitely not impressed with the New Atheism. It could learn manners and respect from Catholic Bishop Tobin . And social philosophy from Pope Francis.
I commend Bishop Tobin for his fighting Irish guts.
