Rare to find such a gushing LOVE THAT OBAMA article in Watching
America. As a democratic Socialist I note the vicious right wing attacks
on President Obama as some sort of ” Marxist “-inspired in his youth by
one sinister leftist named Saul Alinsky.
But nothing could be further from the truth. Obama is no FDR.In
fact, as a neo-Democrat he makes the New Deal Roosevelt look like a
flaming Bolshevik.
Any fire on the left in the Democrat Party can only be found in
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Bernie would see any international
trade agreement championed by Republicans as poison for the American
working class.
It is capitalist created inequality that feeds racism in America.
We cannot sing our way ( ” Amazing Grace ” ) out of this mass
injustice. The capitalist news media tries to separate racism from CLASS
inequality. And most poor white people here have been invisible now for
decades.
Working class American kids end up in the military fighting the
world’s poor working class Muslims-with whom they have no quarrel. U.S.
imperialism creates these deranged terrorists.
For years now liberal Democrats have acted as if gay marriage was
the great moral issue of our time. Socialists never oppose any advance
in gay rights. But gay marriage can only be a marginal concern for class
struggle socialists.
I personally think that gay marriage is just an extension of
bourgeois marriage- a farce of a farce. And too often just a decadent,
petty-bourgeois circus lit up with a rainbow background.
Obamacare is a sickly substitute for Senator Ted Kennedy’s dream of
health care as a basic human right. Obamacare still makes health care a
free market commodity.
It would have been far more ” progressive ” just to have extended the Medicare system to all Americans.
Loud mouthed reactionary Republican Donald Trump gets one thing right : ” The American Dream is dead ” .
