If you sense that Christianity is being trashed in this country-not for its many failures but for its basic decency-you are probably right. Marx said that the ruling ideas are the ideas of the ruling class. The American ruling class is now too arrogant, corrupt, and decadent to hear the voice of God as once did their Puritan ancestors. They don't dare admit it but the Queen of Mean, Ayn Rand , ( now there I go again ! ) is their pagan goddess. THEY are the New Atheists !
But consider the words of a character in a Dostoevsky novel " The Possessed " ( about those crazed 19th century Russian terrorists ): " If God does not exist, then everything is permitted ".
Indeed for our ruling class : everything is permitted .Soon they will at least believe in hell.Soon we will ALL believe in hell.
