It is clear that the moribund newspaper's now constantly changing
owners, publishers, and editorial page editors share THE FAITH in free
market capitalism with the much quoted voices of the Rhode Island
Center for Freedom and Prosperity. That free market capitalism-making
everything and anything a commodity FOR SALE- ruined a Rhode Island
institution- " the newspaper of record ".
Many older readers of the Providence Journal would still like to see a digitized archives project for the historic newspaper- similar to the one completed by the Brown Daily Herald. Searching microfilm editions of the Providence Journal for 1968 , for example, can be very tedious.
But not much happened here in Rhode Island in 1968 anyway.
The on line Providence Journal is a dysfunctional mess. Again and again -even in different public libraries- the user gets a NO SERVICE message. Did the " server " take a buyout ?A dying newspaper-more buyouts at Providence Journal
