As a democratic Socialist-with deep roots in Catholic social philosophy- I can empathize with this conservative Christian feeling that there is rampant moral disorder in this capitalist society- and the feeling that everything sane and good in THE FAITH is being mocked, indeed religious freedom is being attacked. The New Atheists do not want a dialogue with self-respecting people of faith. They want to quarantine you. And that is NOT separation of church and state. How can any thoughtful person not see that the Gospel of Jesus is as " subversive " to this culture of narcissism as any socialist manifesto ?
Real humanism and the Judeo-Christian religious tradition have a common ground.And neither justifies rampant Islamophobia.
By the way, I miss that Ten Commandments monument removed by political correctness- in -action from Roger Williams Park.
