A failed war on drugs

The war on drugs is as ill conceived as the " war on terrorism ". Drug addicts seeking treatment are quickly evicted from " recovery centers ". What the addict recovers is the old, sordid nightmare life.
There is a need for long term care in a humane, secure environment. This applies to other forms of mental illness. In his book " Darkness Visible " William Styron insists that a long stay in a mental hospital was the turning point in his recovery from suicidal depression..But , of course, he could afford the bills.
Who is more likely to become homeless than a mentally ill drug addict ? No war on homelessness . Instead there is a mean spirited war on the homeless.
