I am certain that these homeless people in Providence are telling the plain truth about police harassment. Is it not absurd trying to " remove homeless people from public spaces " ? As a democratic Socialist I understand that the homeless in capitalist society are automatically excluded from " private spaces ". You would think that any homeless person would immediately qualify for public housing. Also RENT CONTROL would help. This excessive respect for PRIVATE PROPERTY ( " KEEP OUT ! " ) is exactly what keeps homeless people homeless. In Kennedy Plaza the poor homeless souls look up at that long vacant , colossal " Superman Building ". A sane society-not obsessed with property rights - would convert it into cheap apartments for the homeless. The " owners " of that building might qualify as public property managers.
My favorite " socialist " Democrat , Bernie Sanders, could easily make this point about homelessness in America: it is impossible to solve this problem while still honoring PRIVATE PROPERTY.
The Native Americans ( circa 1850 ) could only laugh at the very concept of THE LANDLORD. They thought for many centuries that only the Great Spirit can " own " the good earth and everything in it.
The black American experience with landlords is best expressed by the Langston Hughes poem : " The Ballad of the Landlord ". But that was just communist propaganda.
