For
many years now democratic Socialists-like Bernie Sanders- and the more
militant CLASS STRUGGLE democratic Socialists -have both supported the
fights of unionized workers and " professionals " and state workers AND
criticized their union leadership for a lack of internal democracy. What
is best for organized labor is some form of " democratic centralism " :
complete freedom of debate followed by UNITY in action.
It would be a political disaster for the National Education
Association( NEA ) to endorse the neo-liberal Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The neo-liberal Democrats turned their backs
on working- and the more precarious middle class Americans- decades
ago. They made New Deal president Franklin D. Roosevelt look like a
flaming Bolshevik. The conservative leadership of these powerful unions identify more easily with the ONE PERCENT rich- the very definition of philistine SUCCESS- than with more ordinary-even if highly educated- Americans.
But the rise of " socialist " Jeremy Corbyn to the top of the British Labor Party says " the times are changing " .And so does the rise of this " socialist " Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
The crisis of global capitalism will not fade away.We must begin to question the very legitimacy of " legitimate " wealth.
And public school teachers must stop being the very medium for imparting ruling class values-competition, greed, narcissism - to America's youth
The Republicans were terrified that Donald Trump might form a dreaded third party. Bernie should play on that fear. Or just DO IT !
