Just science literate myself I am impressed with this new simplified
and cheaper technology for sequencing DNA. Way back in 1960 I was told
in the 7th grade that DNA was THE SECRET OF LIFE. I recall seeing the
Hammer Horror Film " The Curse of Frankenstein " in 1958. It was not
just scary . The monster with the murderer's sick brain aroused the
primal fear of damnable blasphemy in the pious Catholic school student.
Today the DNA " secret of life " sounds sterile and even has a
charlatan tone.LIFE is so much more !
I doubt if the human soul will ever be reduced to DNA sequences. Anymore than a Mozart Requiem will be reduced to mere sound vibrations.
The Sense of Wonder will endure. A lost sense of wonder was mourned in the H,P. Lovecraft fantasy story " The Silver Key ". The imagination here rebelled against the dried up intellect.
At the end of his life the great biologist Charles Darwin felt the same spiritual loss. Now he could appreciate music no more than HPL's Erich Zann.
Einstein instincts were right too when he continued to believe in the Old One, Spinoza's God.

This movie really scared me in 1958- the Catholic horror of blasphemy |
