Here is a topic that hardly gets discussed: the division of labor in
capitalist society. What is the real obstacle to job creation for the
working class ? You don't need to be an IWW relic to appreciate that
these Mexican and Latino immigrants are working class brothers and
sisters.
The real obstacle to full employment is the profit system itself. Jobs are " created " if and only if some investors can make them profitable. But what about the rational definition of WORK as simply what needs to be done ?
I notice that Kennedy Plaza is a mess. I get my own broom and a big green garbage bag and I begin to clean up. What will happen ? I will soon be stopped by the police. Unauthorized JOB CREATOR ?
The irrationality of the capitalist system was examined by socialist writer-and psychiatrist - Erich Fromm in a still relevant book: " The Sane Society ". A sane America would not erect the equivalent of the Berlin Wall on this side of the Rio Grande. Workers are not the plague !
And all useful work has dignity- even harvesting grapes, now the grapes of wrath.
