Critics of " socialism " -with its success and failure in practice-
often have a non-historical, mechanical view of human society. A
machine is designed for a particular purpose : it works or does not
work. Only organic things " evolve "-- sometimes in revolutionary leaps.
Slavery also worked. Had the slaves no right or reason to rebel against a system that worked ? But slavery " worked" for the master class. Likewise capitalism works for the capitalists. And the wage slaves have a right to rebel against it.
Behind conservative thought is not even ordinary hypocrisy. It is the philosophical rigidity of " common sense " : A always = A.
Any " science " of history must reject " identity " philosophy just as real socialism rejects " identity politics " Class trumps race, gender, sexual orientation .
We live in a universe of change and development. Capitalism is not forever. Reason is not irrelevant to the economic order.
