Science in the service of inhumanity ? Most of the world's great religions have made their peace with Science , with Darwin and the Big Bang. But sadly they have also made their peace for centuries with brutal ruling classes. In the United States the higher ups in the Catholic Church have made themselves a virtual wing of the military. Recall Cardinal Spellman and his fanatical anti-communism that blessed the Vietnam War and that divine, radio-active, glowing " Mushroom Cloud " ?
SCIENCE as a human institution is being corrupted by the capitalist profit system. Today a " voice of Science " on radio or TV has about as much credibility as a Kevin Trudeau early Sunday morning infomercial.
And even " SEE YOUR DOCTOR " drum beat is often followed by quack advice. Authoritarianism in medicine is NOT science -but more frequently BIG BUSINESS. [ I just learned that over-weight people - says a perfectly credible " clinical report " - have less gray matter in their brain and more likely to become senile ! I await the next sobering CLINICAL REPORT ! ]
So much latest SCIENCE NEWS leads directly to a store cash register. Soon the cost of aspirin and the cost of red wine and the cost of a cup of coffee and the cost of dark chocolate ( for those depressed moods) goes up again.
I wish the public Voice of Science would call for the end of the war on drugs. There is a human right to self-medication without a police state PRESCRIPTION racket. " Medical marijuana " is just a bureaucratic regulation nightmare.
