I don't understand why different socialist parties -including the SEP - are accused of hopeless sectarianism for THIS reason: that they emphasize the CLASS struggle as the predominant force for social change for the present time and for the past centuries ( indeed for the history of " civilization " ) . Nothing sectarian or fanatical about the " long view of history ".
Imagine dismissing a research biologist for being a narrow minded " Darwinist " obsessed with the struggle for existence ?
There are , of course , many " factors " at work in Nature . But all of them collectively do not weigh more than Darwin 's discovery . Karl Marx made a comparable discovery for world history.
If a working class person thinks he or she must confront numerous CLASS enemies in a lifetime , that is not paranoia.
The complete rejection of Marxism as sociological science is the intellectual equivalent of embracing " Creationism " in biology.
