A good, lucid article that does not insinuate any political message.
But does not science -based on objective reality- undermine the ideas of
the right wing " Armies of the Night " ( Isaac Asimov essay attacking
creationism ) but also many notions dear to " liberal " identity
politics ?
It can be no accident that the popular science writers - now very scientifically dead-Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan both were " left-progressives " in politics ?
I have read enough of their popular essays to be" scientifically certain " that they would be supporting that " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders if they were still around today.
Way back in 1988 Isaac Asimov said that man-made climate change was the big science story of the year. In his " Demon Haunted World " Carl Sagan bemoans pseudo-science and superstition replacing the more rational " dialectical materialism " in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
He also had a positive opinion of Leon Trotsky , the " brilliant " revolutionary leader who suffered a very Orwellian fate in Stalinist Russia.
Carl Sagan also praised Albert Einstein's political views expressed in " Why Socialism ". Could a guy that smart be clueless about the right social order ? Sagan wondered..
Those skeptical about " science " on climate change should read Isaac Asimov's essay " The Relativity of Wrong ". Science has no absolute truths to comfort you but you can bet your mortal life on what it does know.
