A Catholic priest, this Father James Williams , takes a vow of chastity. And a homosexual relationship - not rape ? - with a young adult is a serious " sin ".
But why should it be headline news in the secular media ? It is a scandal within the religious community.
Pope Francis sent a message to Catholics around the world to be less obsessive on homosexuality. But the Church has been over-vilified by gay rights fanatics for not deviating much from centuries old dogma.
I have an old Baltimore Catechism -pre-Vatican II- which, I think , is still an excellent guide to personal morality ( along with my old Boy Scout book ) .
Did the reforms of Vatican II attract morally " weaker " types to the priesthood ? To be sure, the loss of Latin attracted seminary students as un-gifted for higher intellectual life as they were for the ascetic life.
Still I don't see why this priest should be " ruined " in his vocation.Senior Citizens might recall the movie " The Cardinal " ( mid 60s ) Actor Tom Tryon played a priest who had at least one fling with an attractive German female. That never made CBS news tonight ( in the movie ) .
