What were the roots of hateful anti-Semitism in Hitler's Third Reich ?
Most historians explain it in term of scape goat creating by the
German capitalist class-who also felt threatened by not a few German
Jews active in the Social Democracy of the Weimar Republic so loathed by
the young Hitler in his " Mein Kampf ".
In this particular incident there was probably more brainless vandalism than reactionary politics. A little thing called " cultural literacy " would enlighten high school students about the horror behind the German swastika. But illiberal liberalism frowned on " cultural literacy ". I recall " The Diary of Anne Frank " is referenced somewhere in the " Dictionary of Cultural Literacy ".
