An INDEPENDENT socialist all my life , I am sure that life on earth - including HUMAN life - will always be a more or less desperate struggle for existence .
WE homo sapiens will never be - not even under some utopian socialism - masters of the universe. As for climate control we will never be able to regulate the climate of GOOD EARTH as we regulate our house AC systems in summer and winter. With no human beings on the planet Earth was for ages a frozen snow ball , then for ages impossibly hot with a toxic atmosphere. A golden age of benign weather patterns allowed the first Golden Age of Civilization , in Egypt , Greece , and Rome . That was the original " garden of Eden " .
Our survival depends on a fresh humility that tells us : WE are not God . Our Eden Earth is rapidly disappearing. I suspect an odd couple marriage between British rationalism and Catholic mysticism can get us through the approaching high tech Dark Age.
For more than a century socialist " vanguard parties " have proved to be useless for building THE SANE SOCIETY without exploitation or oppression. In fact, they all contain the seeds of totalitarianism today.
No form of socialism - that could truly control global industry , imposing LIMITS TO GROWTH - will be achieved by any past or present forms of " progressive " Left politics . Forget about Bernie Sanders ! Forget about the permanent GREAT LEADER of any sectarian Marxist party today. Above all forget about reforming the Democrat Party !
We need SANE human beings - not daffy socialist " Clears " - so much like those in the Church of Scientology
