The writer George Orwell observed years ago alarming totalitarian tendencies on both the political left and right . Orwell thought that " socialism should be obvious " . I read enough of Mr. D'Souza's book " The Big Lie " to give it one star . But it is hardly a white lie to say that Hitler and the Nazis found inspiration in the " secret history " of the Democrat Party . Also, not a quite a BIG LIE but a gross error for conservative scholarship : on page 70 I read : " and Trotsky ended up dead on Lenin's orders ".
Leon Trotsky -a titan among 20th century revolutionaries - was assassinated in Mexico on orders from Stalin in 1940 .
As a democratic socialist I also do not believe that President Donald Trump is a Hitler loving fascist nor that Republicans are right wing storm troopers. And Anti-Fa has more than a fascist streak in it .
I am dismayed that many on the Left do show a contempt for the FREE SPEECH and FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization. I did read Dinesh D'Souza's book " Illiberal Liberalism " years ago and found it mostly and sadly true.
