My guiding light for socialist " politics " was James P. Cannon of the old Socialist Workers Party . Cannon worked side by side with Leon Trotsky until Trotsky was assassinated in Mexico by a Stalinist agent .
Even most New Deal reforms were powered by an INDEPENDENT socialist movement - that put fear and trembling into the hearts of timid Democrat liberals ; and did not assure them uncritical support " and the blessing of job security during the Great Depression .
The present day SWP is an enigma -seemingly a Jack Barnes personality cult. But it might be redeemed or reformed in the future. They still put out " The Militant "
