As mayor of Providence Independent Vincent " Buddy " Cianci was
certainly an able and creative LEADER, truly independent of the local
ruling class. Almost Caesar like in his " independence ", Cianci was
loathed by these lesser plutocrat snobs- not a few of them rather
bigoted against Italian-American politicians. I recall his rejection by a
Brown University " gentleman's club ".
I note in my blog the amazingly hypocritical campaign against him led by those oh- so -ethical Knights on White Horses at 75 Fountain St. And ethical Puritans like Gordon Fox !
As a democratic Socialist I have a CLASS perspective on the nature of political corruption. And the Catholic religious tradition does believe in forgiveness and redemption for ALL types of sinners. .
I wonder what type of " character " that Cianci portrait reveals. I speculated on his soul in a letter published in the Providence Phenix a few years after he was sent to federal prison- having been convicted of no crime in particular.

Cianci was a victim of anti-Italian- American snobs |
