Very excellent article. At age 68 I have lived through both the post
war prosperity, the tumultuous 60s, and the obnoxious Reagan Revolution.
The Bush election in 2000 signified that the American ruling class did
not want to move an inch in any " progressive " direction. The events of
September 11, 2001 started an endless " war on terrorism " that
promises to be another 100 Year War ( unless socialism quickly makes the
world saner )
Way back in the bleak summer of 1973 a close friend of mine was in a pensive mood about our future in America : " I see just a long period of rot ", Ed said.. Ed Maguire -who protested the Vietnam War with his best friends- died in 1990 of a heart attack. He was about to turn 40. The 90s would be HIS decade, Ed thought.
Ed had postponed his " corny " daydream of getting married and having " at least one kid ".
What would he think if he were still beside me today in November 2015 ? Ed was from a working class, Irish-American background. He did like to drink. I did not blame him for that.Stunning new middle age death rate in the United States
