Pluto - a heartfelt matter here too ! THANKS !

To letters@providencejournal.com

I just read -happily- your editorial  "The Politics of Pluto" ( October 10 ). Way back on January 27, 2001 Newsday published  my letter "All in the Solar Family" in which I passionately defended the little guy's status as a true planet, not to be orphaned from our Solar Family.

For me : "It is like hearing that Little Rhody is too small to be regarded as a real state of the United States ... "Keep the little 'underworld' in the family.

I love Pluto ...  poor little Pluto all alone way out there in the cosmic cold-and now it is rejected by its one and only family ".

I suspect that mediocre astronomers with cosmic egos were eager to make a name for themselves un-naming Pluto as our ninth planet - and insulting Clyde Tombaugh.

Your editorial concludes : "At the same time , we're rooting for Pluto to shed its dwarf status and become our ninth planet again."

THANK YOU!
