As long as I have known him my old friend Dave has never been without multi and very convoluted PROBLEMS. More to the story ,but on Thursday he lost his wallet while at an office visit to a Johnston, R.I. urologist. With a rented car, no money , no license , no medical cards and no food cards it would take him some time to recover from this latest convoluted PROBLEM. Dave slept over at my apartment with his pack full of prescription medicine. With his blood pressure too low and he feeling dizzy he wisely chose not to take his blood pressure medicine. Dave was not eager to return to his own apartment complex which , he says , is plagued with mice and a criminal thieving neighbor . Another soap opera Dave blew a couple million dollars in the years after his mother died and ended up temporarily living in his car and even staying a night at notorious Harrington Hall in Cranston, Rhode Island . I loaned Dave some money to get through his latest problem but he quickly returned it after being helped out by a Jewish charity. Presently we are both at the Cranston Public Library. When Dave's Aunt Gracie Alpert died ( she left a legacy to Brown University for brain research ) Dave asked me to check out her will at Providence City Hall. Family lawyers did look for Dave but could not locate him living in his car at the time. Still a good friend but as I told his rather estranged son Dean ( a grade B movie producer ) " Dave is a world class neurotic " ( for example , he carries that bag of prescription medicine everywhere) . I once told friend Dave that if I ever wrote a book on THE ABSURD ( my favorite philosophical theme ) he would find a whole chapter devoted to his life .
