I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
MY MOM WAS RECENTLY A PATIENT AT ELMHURST RESPIRATORY REHABILITATION, THE MOST HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES. MOM WAS TRANSFERRED FROM A LOCAL HOSPITAL. UPON ARRIVAL, THERE WAS TO BE EQUIPMENT FOR HER TO BREATHE AND TO MAINTAIN A LEVEL OF OXYGEN FOR HER SURVIVAL. WHEN WE ARRIVED, THE EQUIPMENT WAS NOT THERE- THE STAFF HAD TO BE TAUGHT HOW TO USE THE EQUIPMENT-WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVE AND THE FIRST APPARATUS THAT WAS GIVEN TO HER WAS CRACKED - WAS NOT SAFE FOR HER TO BE ON . A SECOND ONE NEEDED TO BE OBTAINED FOR SAFETY REASONS.THERE WERE TWO NURSES THAT WERE HELPFUL, BUT ONE NURSE IS ASSIGNED TO AN ENTIRE FLOOR OF PATIENTS, THIS IS BOTH PHYSICALY AND MENTALLY CHALLENGING. THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE CAN GET GOOD OR EVEN ADEQUATE CARE. I WITNESS A GENTLEMAN CALLING FOR HELP FOR OVER TWO HOURS, NO ONE EVEN HELPED HIM. I TRIED TO GET SOMEONE TO HELP AND THEY ALL SAID BUSY.MOM WAS THERE ABOUT 36 HOURS, I WALKED INTO HER ROOM EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AND FOUND HER WITHOUT OXYGEN IN HER NOSE(CANNULA) OR HER BY PAP MACHINE IMMEDIATLY I CALLED FOR A NURSE, SHE WAS STRUGGLING TO BREATHE. THEY CALLED AN AMBULANCE AND SHE WAS SENT BACK TO THE HOSPITAL. IF YOU LOVE YOU FAMILY MEMBER, DO NOT SEND THEM TO ELMHURST REHABILITATION. IF I HAD NOT WALKED IN EARLY IN THE MORNING AND FOUND MY MOM IN THAT CONDITION, WE MAY NOT HAVE HER TODAY. NOW WE HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. SUCH A SHAME THAT PEOPLE WHO WORKED SO HARD THEIR ENTIRE LIVES HAVE TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS.
