A quasi-religious attitude toward one's historically EVOLVED nation-state is the MIND-STUFF of world wars. To be sure , World War I was to make the world safe for democracy . And Woodrow Wilson's " Fourteen Points " were a formula for eternal peace on earth . Suffering German civilians and their starving children were no small factor in bringing on World War II . Bring on nuclear World War III ? For nearly two centuries both American foreign policy and British imperialism were all about a profound respect for SOVEREIGN people on all continents ? All this Wilsonian blather about SOVEREIGN nations , " OUR democracy " , and ballyhooed FREEDOM( so much evident during nearly three miserable , SUFFOCATING years of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and in Europe ) rings true for intelligent , informed American citizens ?
