Still influential on the Left ( even if they never get more than ONE PERCENT of the vote in any election they care to participate in ) are a number of sectarian Marxist parties who identify themselves as " Trotskyist " .
They claim to have broken with Stalinism long ago . But nevertheless they have a miserable SELF-DESTRUCT history . I think the expression DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST makes them nervous and uncomfortable
.
These self-appointed VANGUARD parties have NO roots whatever in the real working class. Study the history of any two or three of them . They all degenerate into personality cults ( so much like Stalinism ) .
They all have a permanent GREAT LEADER with a very private capitalist bank account. The members are so much like the " Clears " in the daffy Church of Scientology. Most of the members are both neurotic and unfriendly toward outsiders. Real world winners !
The sectarian Marxists rarely read books, magazines, newspapers, alien to their ideological prison. ALL issues are settled with a quotation from Marx, Lenin, Trotsky , or the living GREAT LEADER .
Above all what matters in LIFE is the correct political line( And a curse on any deviationists !) The numerous articles on their web sites never offer any fresh , original views. Most of these stale air, sectarian Marxist articles could have been written by a computer. Even in REVOLUTION it helps to sound human ! Eric Hoffer's classic TRUE BELIEVERS will not save humanity from global capitalism.
What I find scary is this ON THE LEFT scoffing of the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization. Here are the seeds of another era of totalitarianism. Or George Orwell's eternal Police State.
