The World Socialist Web Site is spot on about police violence not
being essentially racial. I don't need to be lectured about cops being
all too human.
My grandfather was a cop in the South Providence area
during the Great Depression years. His politics : " You'll never get a
bone from those Republicans ". A " progressive " cop, my grandfather ?
I browsed a book written by the now divorced wife of a police
officer. She made the point that cops in general do become estranged
from the very public that they are called upon to " protect ". And she
noted that their close friends tend to be mostly other cops.
At their best some cops have a commendable sense of good and
evil. And it shows up when they write detective fiction and crime
stories.
That won't stop them from getting tough with " Bolsheviks ".
