But I am also reminded of the Albert Camus novel " The Stranger " where a bored and weary young man named Meursault-accused of murdering an Arab in Algeria- learns what loss of freedom REALLY means : no normal sex life. The Nobel Prize winning French writer was a socialist and an opponent of the death penalty. And an opponent of state torture.
