The Royal Wedding was the focus of attention on the Dunkin Donuts TV this morning. I watched a minute of it while ordering their " America runs on DUNKIN " often lousy coffee.
Is it not old fashioned AMERICANISM not to slobber over royalty ? They are often beautiful and charmingly NICE people.
But let the British aristocrat and wonderfully FREE THINKING philosopher Bertrand Russell have the last word on them in his humorous essay titled " Nice People ".
The reader is made to wonder how such NICE people have managed to make the world a hell.
" Lord " Russell argued for " socialism " - like his friend Albert Einstein - all of his long life. In this, however , they gave no practical advice like the Trotskyists.
The American capitalist class always envied British royalty. Nothing quite so pleasing to them as " divine right ".
