A curiously incongruous sermon in a Catholic Church on Easter Saturday

"The Israeli massacre was barely mentioned on the Sunday television interview programs and has evoked no editorial statements by major media outlets."

One would expect local Catholic churches in Cranston, Rhode Island to be more sensitive to the plight of the Palestinians after the news of the massacre of innocents in the Holy Land. An otherwise beautiful , poetic Easter Saturday service at Saint Mary's in Cranston was marred by a curiously incongruous sermon featuring an Old Testament story about the God of monotheism taking sides in some ancient battle between Israel and Egypt. It is not clear if the Egyptians in those days were much less righteous and worthy in the eyes of God - or in the eyes of sober historians today- than the Jews of Israel fighting for survival in merciless times.

Just what was the connection here with the New Testament message of divine, UNIVERSAL love ?

Then the St. Mary's  priest told a silly -but politically correct ( in the ME-TOO atmosphere today ) joke: Some faithful priest died and met Mary, the Mother of God, in heaven. Enraptured by the vision , the happy soul of the priest still had a question for her: " Why do you always look so sad in those pictures ? " To which Mary replied : " Well. you know, I always wanted a girl ! "

Then the Easter morning " fake news " about the Pope no longer believing in Hell . If that were true , to which circle of Hell would the Italian poet Dante assign him ? ( I read that there is one " Cardinal Ruggieri " already there ).

Just a thought worthy of a pre-Vatican II sinner : " What a hell of a heaven it's going to be when all those hypocrites assemble there " ( A Mark Twain quote , Twain a really funny guy - probably sent right to Hell for too many irreverent thoughts - UNPATRIOTIC too . )
