Less politics involved in a Nobel Prize for science . But the name William Shockley is still notorious. Fritz Haber gave us poison gas - but also saved the world from starvation. LIFE is full of dialectical contradictions.
Harper Lee's " To Kill A Mockingbird " did deserve that Pulitzer Prize for literature. Her book definitely served the Civil Rights Movement. It is now banned in some schools for unforgivable use of the n-word. Atticus Finch can be forgiven for believing firmly in " the integrity of our courts and jury system ".
